This isn’t my first blog. Over the last year during my time as a real estate developer, I blogged about Puerto Peñasco, Mexico at www.puertopenascopost.com – in particular about the real estate industry there. Blogging serves a few purposes for me. Obviously, it provides some visibility for my business law practice. It also is a pretty effective way of archiving a lot of information and knowledge in one place – for both readers and for me to easily access. Finally, it provides a great way for me to synthesize my thoughts about various issues that I’m interested in and hopefully provides some additional insight for readers.
A lawyer blogging isn’t a new thing – but it still is a bit out there for most attorneys. I think lawyers collectively tend to be fairly conservative in our marketing/visibility efforts and many still prefer networking on the golf course or at seminars (both do still serve a purpose). But in this new age of technology, I believe that the best way to reach out to prospective clients and to be more effective in advocacy is to utilize as many technological tools as possible (yes, including myspace and others). And getting the word out about my law practice, who I am and what I do is much more efficient through a blog.
I’ll be blogging about a variety of topics, but will focus primarily on business and legal issues affecting people here in Arizona. Immediate topics that come to mind are the residential loan problems in Arizona (e.g., loan modifications, short sales, anti-deficiency laws), the worsening situation in the commercial real estate market, the dearth of private equity/venture capital in Arizona and the need for the Phoenix metro to diversify its economy to rely less on the construction and service industries.
The blog will evolve – as every blog does – throughout the course of my time spent on here and perhaps I will begin to focus more on only a few topics. But in the beginning it will be pretty general. And of course, the usual caveat we lawyers like to use always applies – what you read on here should not be taken as legal advice, simply my random musings on various topics. If you want the real deal, give me a call or email at my day job as a business and real estate lawyer and I’ll be happy to see if I can assist.
